Our hands-on art program takes students beyond their understanding of creativity and grows them in their innate artistic gifts!įrom the stages of Carnegie Hall, music festivals hosted in Italy, and concerts for big crowds in China, our students have a deep understanding of the vast horizons that make up musical learning and performance. Students are shown the wonderful world of performance and the confidence that it brings by means of opportunities to showcase themselves nationally and internationally. You can learn architecture, engineering through interactive activities! My most favorite activity has to be the marshmallow challenge where we made a tower out of spaghetti and had to balance the marshmallow on top. Recently they have made STEM club which is one of my new favorite clubs. The people in the Sports teams including the soccer team show and put their most effort into everything they do. Their extracurriculars like Compassion connection help give back to their community by dontating sandwiches or sending care packages for the holidays to children who need it most.

They have many free tutoring programs for math, science, Spanish and English. If I needed any help at all I knew where to go and who to talk to. But when I came for the first time, it may have felt overwhelming but doesn’t everyone? The teachers however had made me feel like I fit in. Sophomore: Before coming to Preston High school, I was always stuck in my comfort zone and didn’t really branch out as much. Overall, Portledge is a great place with a great learning environment and I do not plan on leaving!. I feel that Portledge's curriculum (and other private schools) could be improved by including more modern events that impact some of the students that attend the school. I wouldn't say that we face racism, but we have to deal with not being able to say certain things or be our full selves because most of the students there do not understand. Being an black student at Portledge, a prominently white school, I feel that most of the students are blind to what the (very few) minorities at the school face. Portledge has many pros, but just like any institution, there are also cons. I love our campus because it is very college-like and due to this, the students have a lot of responsibilities, some examples would be having everything we need before walking across campus and scheduling meetings with teachers. Sophomore: I have many opportunities at Portledge, which is something I love about the school.

We are looking forward to many more years at Friends!. More importantly, the teachers were open and responsive to feedback, and continued to tweak the new modality regularly. The transition to virtual school was so seamless, that it seemed like it was planned for (it might have been). Our son’s first year was FANTASTIC! Notably, while everyone was scrambling to figure things out when the State shut down, our son was being educated and supported in a way that was developmentally appropriate, fun and responsive. We initially chose Friends for our son because we wanted more for him we wanted him to learn through experience, to develop thoughts of his own and more importantly to be part of a community that subscribed to similar values as ours. As a parent, and an educational professional, I personally could not have designed a better experience for my son, especially during the COVID-related shut down. Parent: We have a rising Kindergartener, who finished his first year at Friends in Pre-K.
